🔍 What the Firearm Safety Certificate Test Is
The California Firearm Safety Test (FSC Test) is a legally required written exam you are required to take if you plan to purchase or receive a firearm in the state of California.

To pass, you must answer at least 23 questions correctly (75%)
Once you pass, you receive a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) that is valid for 5 years.
⚖️ Why the FSC Test Is Required
The requirement exists to support public safety and responsible ownership. California has some of the most detailed firearm laws in the U.S. The test ensures you understand your responsibilities as a lawful gun owner.
🧾 Who Needs to Take It (and Who Doesn’t)
Those who are going to purchase a firearm in California
Those who are receiving a firearm transfer
Some people are exempt:
Active or honorably retired law enforcement
Certain military personnel
Individuals with valid concealed carry permits (CCW) in some cases
Those with specific firearm-related credentials

Retakes:
You are allowed one retake after waiting 24 hours.
If you fail a second time you are required to wait another 24 hours and pay additional fees to retake.
